Tout commença avec Internet...
L'idée germait depuis quelques années déjà. Alain Fortier avait déjà entrepris des démarches dans ce sens en 1997. Puis au début de l'année 1999, après quelques discussions avec Eric Fortier, il fut convenu d'y aller de l'avant avec le projet de formation d'une Association de famille Fortier.
Le 24 avril 1999, un groupe composé de 12 personnes se rencontrèrent à Québec pour y discuter de l'opportunité de fonder une association et d'y jeter les premières bases ce qui allait devenir l'Association des familles Fortier. De ce groupe, 9 personnes acceptèrent de tenir un rôle sur le conseil provisoire de l'association.
Tous les membres-fondateurs se rencontrèrent par le biais d'internet. Profitant de ce moyen de communication extraordinaire, les dossiers avancèrent rapidement et le 22 mai 1999, une seconde rencontre à Richmond fit entrer l'association dans sa phase finale afin d'être reconnue légalement au yeux de la loi et de la Fédération des familles-souches québécoises.

The idea had been germinating for some years now. Alain Fortier had already taken steps in this direction in 1997. Then at the beginning of 1999, after some discussions with Eric Fortier, it was agreed to go ahead with the project of formation of an Association of Fortier families.

On April 24, 1999, a group of 12 people met in Quebec City to discuss the opportunity to found an association and lay the foundation for what was to become the Fortier Families Association. From this group, 9 people agreed to take a role on the provisional council of the association.

All founding members met through the internet. Taking advantage of this extraordinary means of communication, the files progressed quickly and on May 22, 1999, a second meeting in Richmond brought the association into its final phase in order to be recognized in the eyes of the law and the Quebec Stem-Family Federation.
